“You’ll never believe the variety you’ll find at Guths Boulder Gardens,” says a man who has spent the past decade building the world’s largest green space, a 1,600-acre landscape that is more expansive than the Empire State Building.
The Greens are the only group of people who live in a greenhouse, and they do it to preserve and restore a landscape that has been neglected by city planners, says Bruce Guth, a retired farmer who has built the largest green site in the world in the hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
“You’re seeing a bunch of very rare plants,” he says.
“You’re finding new species.”
Guth has spent about 20 years constructing the Green Giant, a huge space at the edge of his ranch that sits at the heart of the family’s small town of Fairmont, Nev.
For nearly half of that time, Guth has been running a business he calls the “green garden,” a business that sells seeds and compost and sells products like water purification and irrigation systems.
The company is one of many in the Green Mountain Greenways movement, which has grown rapidly in recent years.
Since its inception in 2015, more than 6,500 greenhouses have been built or are under construction around the world.
The Green Giant is the largest such facility, with 2,600 acres, which is about the size of the state of Maine, and it is the only one built in the United States.
Guth says he has never had a client come to him with an offer for the Greens.
“I don’t care how big or how many people I have, they’re always going to come to me,” he explains.
“The first thing you learn is to make it easy.”
Garth’s family farm in northern Utah is about a mile from the Green Mountains.
His grandfather started a lumber mill, and the family moved to Fairmont in 1959, where they grew potatoes, corn, and soybeans.
In the late ’60s, they moved to a nearby town, which was a boomtown in the 1970s and ’80s, and Guth’s family moved in with their daughter and granddaughter.
“They had a very, very beautiful life,” Guth says.
“We were very fortunate that we had a lot of land.
They grew corn, we had soybeans, we grew potatoes.”GUTH’S GRANITE GROWERSThe Greens have a lot to offer the average person, Guth says, adding that they are more affordable than most other greenhouses because they offer a lot more than just greenhouses.”
When I say we are a little cheaper, I mean it,” he said.
“There’s a lot in the price range.”
Goth says he can’t compete with other gardeners who have a big facility, and he is very protective of the environment.
The Greens are in compliance with federal regulations, and if he is asked for money to build something, he says, he has to say no, even though he doesn’t want to.
“It’s very difficult for me to say yes to anything.
I have to be realistic about what it costs.
But it’s a cost that I can live with.
It’s not a cost I’d want to take away from anybody.”
The Greens, like most other small business, have to deal with a variety of problems.
“We are always in the process of building things,” Guth explains.
“But we have to think about how to pay for them.”
Gyr has a small staff of about 20.
Some of them have been there for as long as 20 years, while others have been in the business for less than a year.
“I have three people that have been with us for 25 years.
I’m always looking for new people,” Guth said.”
The first one to come up with something is the one that comes up with it.”GOTH’S NEW GROWTHSThe Greens also have an abundance of other products.
They sell water purifiers, which can help clean up polluted water, and water purifying systems that use a mixture of water and organic matter to purify the water, reducing the risk of bacterial contamination.
“If you take out the water and just flush the whole system, you’re actually cleaning the water system,” Guth explained.GUTH ALSO OFFERS THEMSELVES A GREEN HATThe Greens offer composting and water filtering, which are both very environmentally friendly, but also make the Green Giants green.
They are also able to grow a variety.
“It’s a really nice way to grow vegetables in your yard,” Guth notes.
“They don’t have to go to the garden.
